Criminal Defense

Have you ever been charged with a crime? Remember, you are presumed innocent UNLESS proven guilty!

First, you need to understand that a criminal arrest is just that - an ARREST. It is NOT a conviction. However, a crimnal conviction carries with it several potentially serious consequences. There is the potential for court fines and costs, along with a jail sentence and/or probation. If this is your first arrest, you may be eligible for a program through the Superior Court, which could result in your avoiding the above consequences. If this is not your first arrest, a conviction could result in even more severe penalties.

The above results may not necessarily occur if you are represented by an attorney experienced in criminal law. Attorney Thompson has extensive experience in the area of defending criminal arrests at the Superior Court level.

Remember, you do have constitutional rights which ensure your fair treatment by the police and by the Courts, and most importantly, you are innocent UNLESS proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. Let Attorney Thompson review your criminal case and help you determine the best course of action based on your personal circumstances. Call us today at 860-621-6262.

DUI / DWI Defense
Have you been arrested for DUI/DWI? The suspension of your license is NOT automatic!

First, you need to understand that a DUI/DWI arrest is just that, an ARREST. It is NOT a conviction. However, a DUI/DWI conviction carries with it several potentially serious consequences. Your driver's license will likely be affected, and your insurance rates and employment status may also be affected. There is the potential for court fines and costs, along with a jail sentence and/or probabtion. If this is your first DUI/DWI arrest, you may be eligible for a program through the Superior Court, which could result in your avoiding the above consequences. If this is not your first DUI/DWI arrest, a conviction could result in even more severe penalties.

The above results may not necessarily occur if you are represented by an attorney experienced in this area of the law. Every detail of your arrest can be an important component in determining whether you will be convicted of DUI/DWI or not. This includes results of any breath, blood, or urine tests if taken, or the refusal to submit to any of these tests, as well as your age and the type of driver's license you have. If you hold a Connecticut drivers license, you could be subject to a one year revocation with a potential impact on your employment. Attorney Thompson has extensive experience in the area of DUI/DWI defense, at both the Department of Motor Vehicle Administrative Hearing level and the criminal aspect at the Superior Court level.

Remember, you are innocent, UNLESS proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. Let Attorney Thompson review your DUI/DWI case and advise you on the best course of action based on your personal circumstances. Call us today at 860-621-6262.

Personal Injury Claims

INJURED? Auto, Work Related, Slip and Fall. The insurance companies have defense attorneys working for them. So should you!

It is important that you understand and protect your rights from the onset of any personal injury claim. If you do have a claim for personal injuries, you are required to file timely notice of your claim with the at fault party to protect your interests. You may be entitled to payment of your medical bills, lost income compensation, and additional compensation for your injuries. However, there is a limited period of time for you to take the appropriate actions. Proper handling of your personal injury claim requires the earliest possible attention to properly investigate and prevent the destruction or alteration of evidence. It will also ensure that you receive proper medical attention, and avoid making statements or taking actions contrary to your best interest.

There is no charge for a personal injury office consultation and, additionally, attorney fees in a personal injury claim are paid only if settlement is obtained on your behalf. The fee is set by statute and will be reviewed with you at the first consultation.

We look forward to assisting you with your personal injury claim and working with you toward a fair and reasonable settlement of the claim. Call us today at 860-621-6262.

Infractions - Speeding Tickets, Other Moving Violations

It's NOT "just an infraction".

After being issued a summons by a police officer for speeding, or other moving violations, the officer usually gives you an envelope to mail in the summons and suggests that if "you just pay it, you won't have to go to court". This is a huge mistake!

The consequences of a guilty plea can not only be the fine, but also points accumulating on your driver's license, driving retraining classes, cancelation of your license, or increase in your insurance rates.

It is not uncommon to achieve an outcome of a Nolle of the charge, or a charitable contribution or community service to obtain the Nolle.

For a minimal fee, Attorney Thompson can appear in court for you, without your having to attend so you don't have to miss work or other responsibilities. Attorney fees (from $350) can frequently offset the more extreme consequences of a speeding ticket or other moving violations.
